Now it may seem absurd on paper, but I like that idea. In multiplayer, you get a new set of tracks. In that game, you can only race a set of tracks as a single player. What do I mean by that? Let’s take Extreme Racing for instance. The main reason why my expectations aren’t sky high, is because of gameplay innovation. But I didn’t want to raise the bar too high as I still had doubts that this was going to be the best Hot Wheels video game in a generation. I was surprised that car returned, but I was even more stunned when I watched the Diecast trailer and I saw that not only did they include real life cars, but Screen Time cars like KITT from Knight Rider, Back to The Future DeLorean, Batmoblie, etc. That is until one day in late July when I saw the screenshot that RD-02 (with AcceleRacers skin nonetheless). I don’t mind just fantasy models in most Hot Wheels video games, but for a game like World Race, I was expecting them to use the licensed cars.Įven when there were more trailers, my expectations didn’t change. This is one of the main reasons why that video game is the worst in my opinion. Even the World Race video game the licensed cars were replaced by fantasy models. After all, there was only once instance where Hot Wheels actually used a licensed car for a video game It was the Nissan Hardbody in Stunt Track Driver 2 (Planet Hot Wheels: World Race doesn’t count). In fact, I have so much that I had to create a folder so I didn’t have to painfully scroll down every day). But I still browse that community as I have a lot of bookmarks stored. I even remember not too long after the teaser, one user on Reddit hoping for the 1952 Hudson Hornet to appear in the game and I told him “I hope so too, but it’s unlikely that’s going to happen.” (I no longer have a reddit account as it was taking up a lot of time. Judging by the trailer, I didn’t think the game would flop, but I wasn’t expecting it to be even above average nor nostalgic like Stunt Track Driver or Extreme Racing. After the trailer, I was surprised then a bit skeptical. Then when February 2021 rolled around and I saw a trailer for Hot Wheels Unleashed though likely the Reddit community (I can’t remember where else I saw the trailer). That’s when I thought “Ok, so it looks like there won’t be any more standalone Hot Wheels Video games.”Īfter 20, I didn’t even imagine the slightest for another Hot Wheels Video game coming in my lifetime. But after 2018, I was disappointed but understanding. However, after 4 years following World’s Best Driver, I figured that they were waiting for 2018 which was the brand’s 50th Anniversary to release the next video game that was bound to be one of the best in my opinion. It wasn’t like in the early 2000s when it was common for 2 or 3 video games to be released in a singular year. See in 2010, Hot Wheels Track Attack came out and I waited a little longer than usual for the next release. Not counting DLC expansion packs nor mobile games, this is the first Hot Wheels video game in 8 years! When I first saw the teaser trailer all the way back in February, I was more surprised than excited because I didn’t expect Mattel to ask Milestone (Both Developer and Publisher) to make a video game since many say that World’s Best Driver (the last video game until Unleashed) mediocre game which I get (It’s not the worst game, but it’s not good from a Hot Wheels perspective) Especially what happened last year.īack in 2013, I figured “There’ll be another one on the way in a few years.”. With the game coming out tomorrow if you preordered the Ultimate Stunt Edition like me (I did for the Nintendo Switch) or in 4 days I figured to share my thoughts on Hot Wheels Unleashed
